Dancing with the Stars | 13×05 | The Tango

Dancing with the Stars | 13×05 | The Tango

I was experiencing theme fatigue at this point and I think Hope and Maks were as well. I don’t think Maks was even in the States in the 80s yet and Hope was a child. Seemed a bit unfair. That said, I loved their costumes, Maks’ eyeliner, and Hope managing to come out of it with a bloody nose. Hardcore to the end! And yeah, Hope had a meltdown but as a fellow introvert I am surprised she made it this far. At least she is cute while exasperated and flaily. The judges were bipolar, even in the same breath, and they were going first. AGAIN. Unprecedented times going first for this show. Don’t think we didn’t notice your shenanigans, DWTS. They did their best to make them feel unwelcome.

  1. isn’t this the show where Hope and Max performed turns and flips of high difficulty while Rob walked through his dance and outscored everyone?

I remember Hope going upside-down at one moment.

  2. That was in the later Tango. This early one was 80s themed rather than traditional tango though she did do that awesome forward dip and improve a lot on stage performance and character. The one that Hope had to take shots in her shoulder for and only ran through completely once before performing (and awesomely I might add) was the traditional take on the Tango that happened in her last week there. For that one they did have a lot of crazy holds and at one point she braced his forward dip which was pretty amazing. Not that DWTS cared.

There was a lot of “home-cooking” in this last season of DWTS. Outside of whether someone actually liked Hope or not you have to admit the facts speak for themselves as far as unprecedented things the show did to her. I’m not sure how they’d manage to make someone feel more unwelcome than they did. They’ve made a vocal un-fan out of me. I think the earlier seasons had a better spirit than this last one did.

Hope regularly had hard, pro-level moves in her dances that the judges flat out ignored. While it is true they aren’t use to their female stars being athletic enough to pull that hard stuff off they should be professional enough to adapt to that and respect Hope’s strengths which are actually part of dancing. She’d be the first to admit she isn’t as easily graceful as some, but no one was penalizing the other stars for not being able to do the strength side of it. And yes, in real dancing ladies do have to do crazy holds and be strong like Hope is. But that is Hollywood for you. They were having a down year and were taking care of their own rather than just letting things play out honestly.

  3. Rob ALWAYS looked flat footed and like he was doing long division while dancing. And his dances were very simple. Same with Ricki. She was graceful…but she didn’t do much. Derek danced around her. The show is about promoting Hollywood B level stars though so they were among friends. Even the guy who won is an actor. I don’t really care if the show is like that as long as they keep it “in the family” and don’t involve real people like Hope anymore. Certainly not if they then treat them terribly like they did this season for the sake of ratings. It was like watching a hazing towards the end.
